Why China’s Technology Theft Poses a Bigger Challenge Than That of the Soviet Union

China has demonstrated the skill to steal technology and intellectual property and it has accelerated over the past decade. This has been aided by their "thousand talents" program, outsourcing of manufacturing, and reliance on China as a major market for US companies (with significant tradeoff ex: source code). Their ability to successfully incorporate technology and to carry out their long term plan (in decades not months, or years) has rapidly increased. They are now incorporating influence operations and data analytics. This challenge will continue over the next decade with the increase of data analytics, utilization of intellectual property, and proprietary technology.
