A Chinese Database Is Tracking American Nuclear Scientists and Military Officers

By: Caroline Delbert

In 2013, Office of Personnel Management (OPM) databases were breached, with China being the primary suspect. This breach was followed up with significant breaches at Equifax, Yahoo, and Anthem. China has now built a database of US nuclear and strategic industrial scientists, technology leaders, and Military Officers scraped from social media sites, such as LinkedIn. It was suspected that after the 2013 breach, building a profile was and continues to be China's main goal. The database will aid in the creation of a detailed profile on the individual "to further China's objectives, which the company behind the database says is to provide misinformation services and social media influence.
